Outdoor Christmas decorations are really a lot of fun. Whether you go contemporary, classic decor or simply draw out an entire Winter Wonderland scene through your front yard, decking the outdoors is definitely one of the highlights of the season. While some people genuinely adore the haphazard, throw everything up where it goes every year sort of look, the truth is most people are looking for some way to organize their outdoor Christmas decorations into something attractive and fun.

Even if you’re using blow up animated Christmas decorations, you can still enjoy serenity with order rather than chaotic and unplanned trimmings. It is simply a matter of pacing and spacing, and sifting through the old and the new.

Most people add at least one new decoration to their Christmas collection annually. However, many people forget to use it as a replacement ornament and end up stuffing their yard with so many decorations that nothing stands out and nothing adds that tremendous wow factor because it is buried behind so much.

Start with the lighting. After all, the lights are going to stand out more so than anything else throughout the nights, thus this is where you can make your biggest impressions. Don’t mix lights. If you use three strands of white lights to outline your trees, don’t grab the box of green and red twinkling lights for the last tree just because you ran out of the white lights. Rather, stick with one type of lighting. Using spotlights to accent key pieces and trim lighting to decorate porches, roofs, and windows can add a striking backdrop of lights. Creating entire scenes with lights takes patience and a lot of time, but well worth the pay off. You can accomplish this by bending sturdy wire into the silhouette of the scene you would like to portray and then framing the silhouette with the lights.

You can create your own outdoor Christmas decorations using wire, greens, pine cones, bows, and holly branches. Highlight your creations with small white lights and you have your very own one of a kind outdoor decor. Use the wire as your framework for any type of decoration you wish. Mesh the greens to give it volume, and then accent the pieces with holly, mistletoe, or bows, or even small amounts of ivy. Creating your own not only guarantees that you are the only one on the block with such an unusual and unique decoration, but you might even start a new holiday tradition with your family. You don’t have to be a budding Michelangelo to create your own pieces. Just a small amount of imagination will do. The worst mistake people make when decorating the outdoors for the holiday season is decorating the same way they have for years simply out of habit, rather than making a few changes and deciding where they want things this year. Small changes can really make a big impact.
