Creating a retro style is easier than ever as the things of the past become more and more popular in home decorating. While it’s not exactly a new trend, it’s still a hot idea in home decor.
Kitchen retro clocks, such as the Retro Wall Clock and other small touches can be found easily. Even appliances have gotten in on the act with high end stoves and refrigerators that look like they belong in a 1940’s or 1950’s style kitchen, yet have all of the modern conveniences you demand.
Even if your budget won’t allow for such extravagances, you can still create a kitchen that is decidedly retro. Starting with simple and inexpensive changes, such as wall color, is the best place to start. Look through old magazines for color ideas that will be perfect for the period you are trying to recreate.
Next, consider other small changes such as changing hardware and counter accessories or adding a retro clock. Some flooring changes, such as adding black and white vinyl tile, can also be made inexpensively. These changes will add big impact, and are a great place to start.
Find old photos or art prints and have them blown up. Purchase inexpensive frames and hang them in your room. Old ads for kitchen products or restaurants add a whimsical and interesting touch to your retro kitchen.
Don’t wait until you can afford all of the high end touches before giving your kitchen the retro look you have always wanted. Start small with the addition of a retro clock or some metal wall artwork, and before you know it you’ll be living (and cooking) in the past!
Happy Holidays,
Reni
