Decorating the entryway presents its own unique challenge. Very few people have a lot of space, but it is usually the first impression visitors receive of the entire house. Doing it right can be more than satisfying.

Wall space is particularly important in an entryway. The use of the wall can make or break the area, and either leave one feeling cramped or leave one feeling as though they’ve nearly added a new room onto the house. Wrought iron mirrors can make a wonderful addition to an entryway without taking up precious wall space unnecessarily. A unique and beautiful wrought iron mirror can not only lend itself to function, after all who doesn’t like to take a quick double check peek in the mirror when they can, but mirrors in general can add depth to a small area. The particular use of wrought iron can blend well with almost any other wall decor that you choose, either now or in the future. When decorating the entryway, every piece has to count for something.

Small touches, like simple home decor accents should be used sparingly but appropriately. A small table can be useful, especially a small antique corner desk with just enough space for one drawer and perhaps a small plant. However, by placing a unique home décor accent on the table top, you can help prevent it from becoming the place where everyone drops everything on their way in the door while simultaneously adding a touch of personality to the room. Coupled with a wrought iron mirror just above it, on small area can feel and look as inviting as a living with three basic and simple pieces. Elegance can be subtle, and of course when decorating the entryway, subtly reigns.

Many people use welcome mats and similar pieces along the floor for practical purposes. After all, nobody wants their house covered in muddy footprints as guests enter for a get together. You did just wash the floor after all, didn’t you? However, welcome mats generally take away from the décor of the entryway. Small Oriental runners or even small throw rugs can help to keep the floor clean while adding warmth to the room. These small additions are easy to clean, or to have cleaned, and are much more sophisticated than the run of mill welcome mat.

To reduce clutter, remove articles such as coat racks along the walls. This only encourages a mess at the wrong time and place. Using well placed wall hanging or even wall scones can keep the area tidy and add character to a space that requires so little to say a whole lot. Keeping the décor simple but creative, allowing for special accommodations while adding a bit of flair and life to an otherwise empty room can be done with just a few well thought out pieces and aiming toward clutter reduction. It’s too easy to get into the habit of leaving your shoes and coat right next to the door if there is a reasonable space for them to lay around. When decorating the entryway, aim for eliminating these habits as much as you are aiming to make a statement.
